The Working Table I covers the most complex area in the Stability Pact which results can be achieved only through long-term processes and a strong involvement of the civil society. In the activities of this Working Table, a substantial NGO input can make a difference on the ground. Progress in the reforms to be undertaken in the framework of this Working Table is also paramount in achieving overall Stability Pact objectives. The media sector is among the priority areas that require an increased effort.

Working Table II – Economic Reconstruction, Development and Cooperation

The strategic aim of the Working Table is to promote greater prosperity and confidence throughout the region and progressive integration into the European and global economy. The first meeting of Working Table II, which took place in October last year in Bari, set in motion/accelerated a variety of processes in many different fields: Regional Development, Infrastructure, Private Sector Development, Trade and Investment. The second Working Table meeting, which took place in February in Skopje, reviewed progress in the different sectors, adding some new fields of activity, such as Vocational Education and Training and Environmental issues.

Working Table III – Security Issues

The aim of this Working Table is to help create a climate of confidence and security throughout South Eastern Europe by enhancing transparency and predictability in the home and justice sectors as well as in the military field. It is committed to promoting cooperation and good neighborly relations in the region. The Working Table emphasizes the need to develop a comprehensive and strategic approach, taking into account the diversity of the countries of the region and distinguishing between immediate and longer-term objectives. This endeavor requires unprecedented efforts and cooperation of all participants in the Stability Pact.

Sub-Table on Defense and Security Issues

In an attempt to promote transparency, openness and predictability in the field of military security and to establish a broad security dialogue among the participating states, this Sub-Table focuses on the following priority sectors

Sub-Table on Justice and Home Affairs

The long-term process towards regional stabilization, based on democratic reform and economic development, requires a basic level of internal security. Establishing law and order and is key to the success of the Stability Pact. Based on this assumption, this Sub-Table concentrates its work on the following priority sectors:

  • Judiciary Police and Border Police
